Southwest flight cancelled nearly 1,000 flights throughout the country on Sunday as it struggled to recover from severe weather in Florida on Friday and keep up with an ambitious timetable hampered by chronic personnel shortages. Hundreds of flights were cancelled at airports with a major Southwest presence, including Denver, Dallas, Baltimore, Houston, Las Vegas, and Chicago, as the airline attempted to rearrange workers and planes. Staffing concerns at one site in Jacksonville, however, combined with military training and "widespread bad weather" caused delays and cancellations, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Starting in late spring, when air traffic demand grew swiftly and airlines struggled to ramp up their capacity, it was a typical scenario that has repeated itself at many airlines. To face the challenge, you'll need to ramp up your operations.
